Lightly coated in spiced gram flour batter and crisp-fried, these yam slices, Kath Alur Pokora, make a delicious appetizer before a special lunch or dinner. Yams are readily available in larger supermarkets and Asian stores, and are a good source of protein and potassium, but you could also use slices of potato or sweet potato, or a mixture of all three vegetables.
