This dish, Gulab Jamun, is traditionally made with two dairy products known as khoya (reduced solidified milk) and chenna (cottage cheese), both of which are time-consuming to make. Full-cream milk powder or skimmed milk powder mixed with single cream are good, quick alternatives.
Soak the pounded saffron in the hot milk for 10-12 minutes.
In a bowl, mix together the full-cream milk powder or skimmed milk powder and cream, semolina, flour, cardamom and baking powder. Rub in the ghee or butter.
