- Cream together the shortening and butter until smooth. Stream in the sugar gradually while beating, continuing to beat until it looks light and fluffy.
- Sift the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt together and set them aside.
- Add the egg and vanilla and beat well.
- Add the flour mixture, a third at a time, mixing until all batches are well
