I patted myself on the back for this recipe, because it tastes startlingly close to the store-bought version.

I kept the orange peel to a subtle amount for that reason, but if you’re a fan, kick it up a notch or two.

  1. Cream the butter and brown sugar on medium speed for several minutes until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla, and orange zest and mix until combined. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt into a bowl and add it gradually to the butter mixture. Beat just until combined. Turn out the dough onto a piece of plastic wrap.
