  • 4 herrings
  • 2 tablespoons oatmeal
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Fat for frying

    Method

    Scale and clean the herrings and wash and dry them well. Mix the oatmeal and salt and use this to coat the herrings. Fry in hot fat for five minutes each side. Grilled herrings can be coated likewise before cooking.
