Mince the meat and vegetables. Put meat and vegetables on a seven-inch pie plate, moisten with a little water and season with pepper. Cover with the pastry. Brush with beaten egg or milk. Bake for twenty minutes at 400°F, 200°C, gas mark 6 then reduce to 350°F, 180°C, gas mark 4 for a further twenty minutes.
