  • 10oz bran
  • 10oz plain flour
  • ¾ teaspoon Salt
  • ¾ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 3oz butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or honey
  • 1 pint milk


    Mix together the bran, flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda. Rub in the butter. Add the sugar or honey, and the milk to make a firm dough. Put into a greased -lb loaf tin and bake at 350°F, 180°C, gas mark 4 for one and a half hours.
