  • 8oz barley flour
  • 8oz plain flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 4oz butter
  • 4oz caster sugar
  • 1 dessertspoon golden syrup
  • ½ pint milk
  • 8oz sultanas


    Sift the two kinds of flour together with baking powder and salt. Cream butter and sugar, and add syrup. Add the flour mixture and the milk alternately, then fold in the sultanas. Put into a buttered seven-inch cake tin and bake at 350°F, 180°C, gas mark 4 for one and a half hours.
