  • 5oz plain flour
  • 1 dessertspoon baking powder
  • 3oz

Method

Sift together the flour and baking powder, and stir in the sugar. Mix in the dripping with your fingers until it is well blended with the flour and sugar. Stir in the beaten egg and milk and pour into a greased pie dish. Bake at 350°F, 180°C, gas mark 4 for forty-five minutes. To serve, cover with jam, or with stiffly-whipped egg white quickly browned in the oven.
