  • 1½lbgreen tomatoes
  • 1lb apples
  • 8oz sugar
  • 12oz sultanas
  • 4oz onions
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1oz mixed spice
  • 1 pint vinegar
  • pinch of dry mustard powder


    Use an enamelled pan or casserole. Chop all the ingredients and cook slowly together until the colour deepens; this takes 1½-2 hours. Put into jars, and seal.
