Originating from old Slavic folk cuisine, pierogi are popular all over Poland. Made from simple, cheap ingredients, they can be served immediately after they are cooked, or allowed to cool and then fried in a little butter. They can be filled with a number of different stuffings, including meat and onion, mushrooms and cabbage, blueberries, sweet cherries, or, as here, with potato and curd cheese.
