Having lived among the Sassenachs most of my life before I went to live “down under, ” I had the choice of many fine restaurants in which to eat. But the meal that had the most impact was at Lyons Cornerhouse in Leicester Square, London. I had just received all my inoculations for the trip across and hadn’t been told not to drink any alcohol. We had a thick slice of underdone roast beef, baked potatoes in their jackets, and a tossed salad, and washed it down with cold draughts of Carlsberg beer—the last thing I remember was the baked potato—it was magnificent!
