Zalata literally means “salad” in Arabic. When we were growing up, this classic Middle Eastern salad was the “house salad” served with most meals.

Ingredients

  • red onion 1 small, finely diced
  • olive oil 2 tbsp
  • green chilli

Method

  1. Place the chopped red onion in a small bowl with the olive oil, chilli, salt, and pepper.
  2. Allow to stand for 15 minutes before adding the tomato, cucumber, lemon juice, and coriander.
