Sauté the onion in the oil until translucent: about 6–7 minutes. Add the garlic, carrot, and celery and continue cooking until the carrots and celery are soft: another 5 minutes or so.
Add the canned tomatoes, bay leaves, red wine, sun-dried tomatoes, and sugar and gently simmer for 25 minutes.
Remove the bay leaves. Add the torn basil and blend to a pur
