Bak kwa is a semi-cured, dried meat snack, somewhere in the realm between jerky and glazed bacon and more addictive than both. It originated in ancient China and was taken by the seafaring Hokkien to Singapore, where it was fully embraced as a local delicacy, most usually associated with celebrations at Chinese New Year.
