The sudden death of Robert’s heir on the Titanic catapults Matthew from Manchester lawyer to reluctant heir to the title of earl and the Downton estate. Taking The Abbey cocktail and twisting it to be a more elegant fifty-fifty gin martini seems an appropriate tribute.

1½ fl oz 45 ml ¾ fl oz 20 ml</
Method
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice and stir until well chilled, 20–30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or coupe.
