Some Asian shops in Europe, particularly in Holland, sell these, and of course you can buy them all over Java and in many other parts of Indonesia, ready to fry or ready to eat. They are a little like the rice cakes that are sold in the West as a diet food, but much nicer and, of course, heavier, because the grains have not been puffed. However, they are still quite light and airy.

In Java, most rengginang are sweetened. I much prefer mine unsweetened, and I therefore regard the sug
