This is an adaptation of a Japanese dish. I enjoy eating it in the Japanese way, using chopsticks to pick up the seafood and vegetables and rice, and then lifting the bowl with both hands and drinking the broth directly from it. But you can just as well use a spoon and fork.
If you serve this hotpot as the main course, I recommend serving plain cooked rice with it in a separate bowl. If you serve it as a soup, you will probably want to forget about the rice β especially if the main
