Congee may be simply a plain rice porridge, eaten as a cereal at breakfast, or it may become something quite elaborate. When I was a little girl my grandmother would give me congee and nothing else if I had a stomach upset. It made me recover pretty fast, either because I soon got bored with the congee or perhaps because it really did do me good.
