A flavoured milk punch might sound as if it comes straight from the pages of a Victorian novel, but do try this – it is subtle, delicate and most refreshing when served chilled.
Strip the flowers from the stems and put them in a bowl with the honey, lemon slices and cognac and a grating of nutmeg to taste. Scald the milk, pour it over the ingredients in the bowl and leave to stand until cool. Strain into glasses and serve. It is also very good as a hot punch, but the flavours have longer to develop if the milk is allowed to cool.
