Ingredients

  • 1 cup split, unhulled moong dhal
  • Salt to taste
  • cups water – add more if you need to
  • ¾ cup pudding rice
  • 2 oz butter

Method

  • Boil the water and salt, and cook the rice and lentils on a low heat until the grains are very soft, almost melded together.
  • Add the butter and mix it in furiously.
  • Children love khichri with cold milk and a little sugar for breakfast. On a cold night, it is great with warm milk. Try it with sliced fiery raw onions, spiced vegetables, pickles or yoghourt.
