Method

On other occasions rhubarb, plums or apricots chopped up can replace the apples in this recipe.

Measure the breadcrumbs, castor sugar and suet into a small basin and set aside. Peel, core and slice the apples into a saucepan. Add the butter and water and place over low heat. Cover with a lid and stew very gently until the apples are quite soft. Beat in the sugar, syrup and lemon rind an
