Can be made in advance ready for last-minute cooking. This recipe makes 25–30 small meat balls and is very economical.

Trim fat and gristle from the steak and peel and quarter the onion. Pass the meat through a fine mincer along with the onion. Crush and chop the garlic very finely. Beat the meat, garlic, egg and seasoning thoroughly together.
