Melt the butter in a saucepan, and stir in the cheese, ale, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Stir until the cheese has melted and the mixture is creamy. Put each slice of toast in a small heated ovenproof dish, toasted side down, and pour the mixture over the top. Put briefly in a hot oven, or under the grill, to brown lightly. Serve immediately.
