The idea of covering fresh fruit with whipped cream and then caramelizing the top with sugar like a crème brûlée did the rounds as a popular dinner party dessert a few years ago. Among the many different fruits used as the base were peaches soaked in brandy, fresh raspberries and mixed soft summer fruits. A contrast of green and black grapes is perhaps the most effective and certainly one that can be made all year round.
