Pears are plentiful and so are grapes. Combine them to make this fruit compote, one that goes well with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 firm dessert pears
  • 175 g/6 oz castor sugar

Method

Peel and halve the pears, then using a teaspoon scoop out the cores. Measure the sugar and water into a saucepan and stir over low heat to dissolve the sugar. Add the lemon juice and bring up to the boil. Add the pear halves, cover with a lid and simmer gently for 10–15 minutes or
