In Italian, ‘cacciatore’ means hunter. This refers to the meal being hunter-style as it was typically made with ingredients that were locally hunted or foraged. The cacciatore would also usually be made with plum tomatoes instead of chopped tomatoes but I prefer the texture of the chopped tomatoes, although mixing it up with plum tomatoes is a nice option. This is great served with crusty bread or orzo.
