Arriving in Rangoon seemed like going back in time. I could see no modern buildings, and of the few cars the latest model looked circa 1950. As we travelled around Burma for the tantalising seven days which our visa allowed us, we felt a peace and gentleness which has long since disappeared from modem life as we know it.
