Desserts are not a strong point of Asian cooking in general. Fresh fruit or jelly-like puddings are what you will find in many parts of Asia. However, I do find the English-inspired crumble quite appealing; using fresh fruit, with a touch of exotic eastern coconut, it is a perfect fusion dessert. The basic recipe is from Monique Pébeyre, who is a French Anglophile. She serves it often in the summer, when fruits are abundant and in season. It is an easy, quick and simple dessert to make. Alt
