This is a delicious and simple-to-make cake, and lovely in this size. Serve it on its own or with a little homemade jam* (see jam recipes listed in the index) or a small pile of fresh fruit, such as raspberries or cherries, and a dollop of mascarpone cream. You can buy the almonds ready ground, or grind them in a food processor but not too fine, as the coarse bits give the cake a great texture.
