Cheese and Honey Pie

The Greeks love honey sweet desserts. This one may not be to everybody’s taste but goes well with the addition of a tart fruit salad on the side.


  • 115g/4oz shortcrust pastry
  • 225g/8oz low fat cheese, such as ricotta
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • juice of ½ a lemon
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 115g/4oz walnuts, crushed


Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4. Line a 20cm/8in flan dish with the pastry and bake blind for 10 minutes. While flan is cooking, mix the cheese with the honey. Add eggs, lemon juice and half the cinnamon and mix thoroughly. Cover the flan base with walnuts and pour the mixture on top. Cook for 30 minutes in a preheated moderate oven at 190°C/375°F/Gas 5. Make sure the mixture is set and then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon on top.
