These are fun to make and, being coconutty and chewy, are much nicer to eat than shop-bought macroons. I make these with my grandchildren but the grown-ups eat more than they do. They should end up deliciously coconut-y and chewy.

Ingredients

  • 3 large egg whites
  • ½ tbsp golden syrup
  • 145 g caster

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200°C/fan 180°C/gas mark 6. Line a baking tray with baking parchment.
  2. Place the first five ingredients in a saucepan and set over a medium heat, stirring continuously to stop it catching. At first it will loosen and go quite runny, but continue to heat and stir, and it will then thicken up. After around 5 minutes, when it reaches the consistenc
