In Betty Crocker’s Picture Cook Book (1950), jumbles are described as “little sugar cakes of old time goodness.” As early as 1890 you can find recipes for them, like the one in Royal Baker and Pastry Cook, which features a basic recipe as well as one with peanuts. Jumbles come in a wide variety of flavors (see Jumble Variations, following), but for my version, I turned to The Calumet Baki
