Method

Peel and cut some pears in quarters, cook them in a large saucepan with very little water, to which you add sugar and a piece of vanilla pod. When they are nearly ready remove them, also the vanilla. Put in a small saucepan two sticks of good chocolate finely grated and a drop of the water in which the pears have cooked. When thoroughly melted pour it into the large saucepan, add a little butter, the pears and more sugar if necessary. Cook slowly. When finished the pears should be quite soft and the chocolate juice the consistency of cream. Serve hot.
