High on anybody’s list of comforting foods, oatmeal cookies are predictably popular at bazaars and other fund-raisers featuring good things to eat. Toasting the oats before adding them to the dough is rewarding when you’re making these; besides enhancing their oatiness, it adds crunch. On the other hand, if there is no time to be lost in getting sustenance into the hands of the cookie-deprived, you can skip that step.
