Sugar cookies are ages old and still winners. The sugar may be all white or part brown, as here, and the flavoring may vary from kitchen to kitchen, but these big wheels will probably roll on forever. Fanciers of vanilla cookies may want to replace the nutmeg and lemon rind with a teaspoonful of vanilla extract. This dough can be used for Snickerdoodles (origin of name unknown), which can be any of several types of American cookies.
