Palefaces

For Palefaces, coconut batter is spooned over a substantial chocolate layer to make split-level bars, pale above and dark below. The three flavors (four, if you count vanilla) make enjoyable harmony in a cookie that’s a little off the beaten track for the brownie troop. The same batters can be differently arranged, if you like, to make the Marbled Black and White Brownies or two farther along.
