  • About

  • ½ pound lean bacon or salt pork, cut in small cubes
  • 2 large onions, chopped fine
  • ½ green pepper chopped fine (optional)
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 large potatoes, cut in small cubes
  • salt and pepper as desired
  • ½ cup rich cream (optional)
  • 1 small can chopped pimientos (optional)
  • 1 can whole-kernel corn or 1 can chopped clams or 1 can tomato-pulp or whatever else you can think of

Fry the bacon until crisp. Add the onions and green pepper and brown well. Add the water, and bring to a boil. Put in the potatoes and let cook slowly until tender. Add the rest of the ingredients, heat thoroughly, and serve. [If this is too thick, fish stock or more water or more cream can be added. My father likes to stand a spoon in this, but I myself prefer it somewhat wetter.]
