Ingredients

  • 5 pounds melted grease (fats not fit for food)
  • 1 one-pound can lye

Method

Dissolve the lye in cold water and let cool. Then add the fat slowly, stirring constantly. Mix the other ingredients together and add to the first mixture. Stir the whole until thick and light in color. Pour into a pan lined with cloth, and mark into pieces before the soap becomes hard. When it is hard, break apart and pile so that it will dry thoroughly.
