[Another excellent sauce is made of equal parts of brown sugar, butter, and sherry, beaten together while it slowly melts, and kept hot, but never bubbling.]


  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup hot water
  • 1 cup sherry
  • nutmeg


Cream the butter, add the sugar gradually, and cream well. Add the nutmeg. Stir in the hot water and add the wine.
