This simple, quick and tasty dish is very common in Keralan cuisine. It is also an important dish for the festival of Sadya (part of Kerala’s harvest festival, Onam). Shredded cabbage is simply cooked in coconut oil, tempered with spices and curry leaves, and finished with a good amount of freshly grated coconut. It can be served as a main with flatbreads, or as a side dish.
