A small variety of lime, the kalamansi or musk lime is 2–3-cm (1–1½-in) in diameter. Green or greenish yellow in colour, it is more fragrant than the lime. Kalamansi are generally used to flavour Southeast Asian curries, sambals and noodle soups. If unavailable, they may be substituted with half-ripe kumquats or even lemons.
