A traditional pie typically consists of a classic pie pastry base and either a sweet or savory filling. Sweet pies often also use a cookie crumb crust (such as a graham cracker crust).
Traditional pies have the most combinations to choose from when making your creation. Start with a traditional pie crust, add an apple filling, and top with streusel, and you have a Dutch apple pie. Or start with a cookie crust, add a chocolate pastry cream filling and a whipped cream topping, and you have made a chocolate cream pie. The possibilities are truly endless.
