  • About

The hibiscus, Hibiscus sabdariffa, is an ornamental shrub native to Africa. In Burma its English-language name is roselle; in Burmese it is chimbaung. Its red flowers, stripped of their petals (so the calyxes only), yield a tart-sweet tea or juice when boiled in water with sugar. The leaves are used as a tart ingredient in curries and in soups.
