The red flower of the kapok tree, Bombex ceiba, is used dried in soups in Burma and northern Thailand. In Burmese it’s called lepan bwin. The tree is tall and blooms in dry season (February); the fruits contain a soft fiber (kapok) that is used for stuffing quilts and mattresses.
