  • About

The moringa tree (Moringa oleifera; commonly called a drumstick tree) yields long, baton-shaped podlike fruit that is picked young, chopped crosswise, and eaten boiled as a vegetable, both in Burma and in the Indian subcontinent. The tree’s leaves are cooked and eaten like spinach; high in calcium and iron, they are used medicinally to lower blood pressure. The seeds of ripe drumsticks yield a good-tasting oil, moringa oil (also known as ben oil), that can also be applied to the skin.
