The Pa-O are part of the family of Tibeto-Burman peoples that includes the Karen (Kayin) and Kayah (Karenni and Padaung). The Pa-O population is found mostly in Kayah State and Shan State, but another important community lives around Thamanyat Kuang, a large temple complex east of Hpa’an in Kayin State.
