The fruit of an evergreen tree native to tropical America. Guavas are usually about 5 or 6 inches in diameter with pale yellow skins and pink or white flesh. They may be eaten raw, but are also made into a paste, into jams and jellies, and are stewed. Cooked and with the seeds removed, the shells are sold tinned.
