Vigna sesquipedalis, also known as Chinese beans, asparagus beans and, in the Netherlands Antilles, as boonchi, are originally from tropical Asia, and can sometimes be found in oriental food shops. The beans, which have a very delicate flavour somewhat akin to green beans, grow to a length of up to 4 feet, but are only about ½ inch round. They are flexible enough to wrap around the skewered meat and vegetables in the Aruba dish, Lambchi and Boonchi.
