Like other Mediterranean countries, Turkey produces a variety of firm, sweet black and green grapes. Delicious fresh, they are also used to make a growing selection of wines, the best of which come from Ankara. They also form the basis of üzüm pekmez, a grape syrup which is often mixed with tahin to make a popular spread for bread.
